Toolsets

Having a killer engine is great and all, but you need to inject art into it to be able to show anything off.

Open Source Everything

Staying with the open-source foundation of Ogre and Python-Ogre, an asset toolset can be created that uses only open-source applications. All of these tools are readily available for most Linux distributions, making the open-source pipeline even more pure and streamlined.

Blender

Used for modeling, applying textures, rigging, and animating, most of the work creating content for a 3d application will happen here.

Meshes Exporter

You will need the Meshes Exporter to get your assets and materials into Python-Ogre.

dotScene Exporter

If using the dotscene framework, the dotScene Exporter will also be necessary.

GIMP

The GIMP is great for texture and normal map editing, as well as specular map editing.

Normalmap Plugin

The normalmap plugin is useful if you want to take advantage of bump, displacement, or parallax maps.

Audacity

Audacity is a powerful audio editor, for sound effects, voiceovers, and editing recorded music.

Rosegarden

Rosegarden is a music scoring app and can be used to create your own music.
